Electronic Plans Room Debuts

Amendment 3 Bonds to Be Sold

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission authorized the sale of up to $550 million in bonds to finance Amendment 3 projects. These bonds, with a 20 year maturity, are the third of four issuances that will finance approximately $2 billion in Amendment 3 improvements. Accelerating construction through bond financing was a requirement of the constitutional amendment that passed statewide in 2004.

Shared Four-Lane Project Underway

Plans are under way to expand Route 5 between Camdenton and Lebanon using a new concept -- a shared four-lane highway. The 18-mile stretch will use three lanes, with one direction getting a second lane every two miles. This concept, used effectively in Europe, will allow traffic to pass safely in an alternate fashion. Project cost will be just over half of what it would cost to build a complete four-lane highway. If this project is successful, MoDOT will consider shared four-lane projects in other parts of the state. Construction will start in 2008, with completion in 2010.

Large Text Option Offered on Older Driver Web Page

A new Web page offering older driver information, now gives visitors the option of increasing the font size with a simple click, making it easier for mature drivers to get information. In the last three years, 541 people were killed and 3,209 were seriously injured in traffic crashes involving an older driver. Older Drivers
