I-70 Improvement Study |
|
The I-70 Improvement Study is an effort by the Missouri Department of Transportation to determine how to improve the safety and efficiency of travel on 199 miles of Interstate 70 between Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri. The study identified widening and reconstructing the existing I-70 as the preferred approach to improving the corridor. It also considered the location and configuration of improvements to be made.
In September 2007, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced Interstate 70 through Missouri as one of six interstates nationwide included in its “Corridors of the Future” program to look at innovative ways to reduce congestion and improve freight delivery.
The program calls for the Interstate 70 corridor through Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio to add four dedicated truck lanes. Missouri will receive $2 million to supplement the existing I-70 study to consider the truck lanes concept.
