Narrative Description:

The Center Creek Bridge (T0425) is a 1935, seven-panel, riveted, Pratt through truss with four steel I-beam approach spans – three on one end, one on the other. The bridge is 347’ long with one 33’, two 60’, and one 49’ I-beam approach spans and a 140’ Pratt through truss main span. The main span has a vertical clearance of 20’ above the deck. The portal bracing consists of lattice bracing with strut bars and connecting diagonals. The bridge has a two-tier channel railing on each side. The deck is concrete with an asphalt wearing surface.

The Center Creek Bridge was constructed as part of project SD–NRS-559 which was part of a broader attempt of building by-passes around cities or a location through the city remote from the business section. The State Highway Commission of Missouri adopted a by-pass policy in 1925 to facilitate the flow of traffic around cities. Route D which includes Bridge T0425 was constructed going north out of Webb City to connect the city to Rte. 16 by-pass. Today Rte. 16 is designated as Missouri Route 96.

The bridge is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion C as a well preserved example of a standard Pratt Through Truss. The bridge still retains its 1935 channel railing, portal bracing and struts. The piers are built from masonry from the substructure of the bridge that existed in the location prior to T0425 being built.


MoDOT’s Historic Preservation Section is now accepting proposals for the relocation of the bridge or its components until June 30, 2018. A proposal checklist is available at MoDOT’s Free Bridges website (http://www.modot.org/freebridges/). Preservation covenants may accompany the bridge.
