MoDOT began the first phase of the Bridge Study, the location and environmental study, in the summer of 1998. Project consultants studied local history and a new bridge's impact on the environment. They also assessed existing and projected travel patterns in the study area during this phase. The location of the new bridge was established to the west of the existing bridge. The final Environmental Impact Statement was approved in May 2000 by the Federal Highway Administration.  More Historic Information

A little bit of history:  This picture was taken at the opening ceremony of the current Route 19 Missouri River bridge in 1930.

In 1929, 21-year-old George Johnson worked for the J.G. White Co. as a timekeeper while the piers were under construction; he clocked employees in and out. The ground breaking for the new bridge was held in Hermann on September 10, 2005 where the 97 year old Mr. Johnson was a guest as well as Senator Christopher Bond who the new bridge will be named for.
