The Environmental Assessment (EA) for one of the most travelled corridors in the St.     Louis metropolitan region – I-270 – is now complete. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have approved the EA for I-270 from I-70 on the west to the Chain of Rocks Bridge on the east. The I-270 North EA is the next step in addressing congestion, safety, and mobility, as well as accessibility and aging infrastructure along the interstate in north St. Louis County.

The EA details the Preferred Alternative for improving the corridor and the study process. It also discloses impacts. The document will be available for your review and comments from Wednesday, November 30th through Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Prairie Commons and Lewis and Clark St. Louis County Library branches. The EA is also available at the City of Ferguson Municipal Public Library. You can access an electronic version here or under the section entitled “Documents.”

A public hearing concerning the improvements to the I-270 North Corridor will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2016 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at McCluer High School, 1896 S. New Florissant Road, Florissant, MO 63031. Feel free to stop by anytime to review the EA and Preferred Alternative, ask questions of the study team and to provide feedback. You will be able to give your input either in writing, electronically or to a court reporter. If you are unable to attend, written comments regarding the EA can be mailed to: Ed Hassinger, Chief Engineer, MoDOT, P.O. Box 270, Jefferson City, MO 65102. Again all comments must be received before Friday, January 6, 2017.

Following the public hearing and the comment period, the study team will review substantive comments and, if necessary, respond. Then it will prepare a document known as the Findings of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the FHWA to review. If the FHWA approves the FONSI, the study will be formally over. The next stage will be implementing the preferred alternative. Currently MoDOT has $100 million available for the first phase of the project.
