MoDOT to close lanes on eastbound PSB for new driving surface

ST. LOUIS – Drivers heading to Illinois on the eastbound PSB should be aware that work on the bridge may impact their commutes until summer 2018.

Starting Wednesday, May 31, MoDOT will have one lane closed on the bridge around the clock.

At 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, MoDOT will close the 6th Street ramp to the eastbound PSB to move barrier and clean the ramp. At the same time, they will close two left lanes across the Poplar Street Bridge to install concrete barrier to close the left lane of eastbound Poplar Street Bridge across the bridge into Illinois. One lane will reopen by 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, the far left lane will remain closed around the clock.

In the closed lane, crews will be removing and replacing the driving surface on the bridge with a surface similar to the one on the westbound lanes.

The left lane will remain closed until July when crews will move one lane to the right. Traffic will split around the work, with one lane going to the left and two lanes to the right.

This fall, crews will close the ramp from northbound I-55 to the eastbound bridge, as well as the two right lanes on the eastbound PSB. The only available access to the PSB at that time will be from I-64. While the ramp is closed, drivers will need to continue on eastbound I-44 to Madison (exit 293), take Madison to Broadway, Broadway to Cass and take the Tucker ramp onto eastbound I-70 at the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge. From downtown, drivers can use the 6th Street ramp to get onto eastbound I-64. The ramp will remain closed for about five months.
